Tobacco is 3x easier to roll with. Either borrow a cigarette and tear it up or find someone who rolls their own and get a little crimp cut from them to practice with. Once you roll the tobacco a few times you'll have the movements down and be able to make a decent joint. It's sort of like how they teach you to make perfect pretzels by having you practice with play-doh.
