Do you still have friends from your younger days?

I knew this one guy. We've been friends since we were 6. We were like brothers by the time we were 13. By the time we were 15 he started to hang out with his cousins and I basically only got to see him in school. After high school he spent one semester at the college I went to before he dropped out. I haven't heard anything from him since then. That was 4 and a half years ago.

Man I hate how things changed between me and him.
You are still in your younger days.
I graduated "High" School in 1980 and I hated all the people I grew up with.
I do however have one friend that I have been friends with since 1981 but everyone else from my past can bite my shiny metal ass.

Give it 5 or 10 more years and you will have lost touch with even more people. Im 33 and I cant think of 1 friend I have I went to school with, I still live in the same area they have all left but where or why I do not know.
The greater part of our happiness or misery depends more on our attitude and less on our circumstances:icon220:

Wow im lucky. I have more people that i've known for years than most. Probably coz my area is very tightly knit and we stick together.

Having travelled a lot I haven't really kept up with anyone , I don't ever need people and have often preferred my own company , I suppose I would be seen as a lone wolf.
I mix well with people and find it incredibly easy to make friends but I've always been a little on the edge and to protect others I kept them at a distance.
I have a few very reliable old friends who I know and we consider each other brothers till the end , one is an old Hells Angel from the north of England (where I was born) I've known him over 30 years. Another is a German guy I used to run my coffee shop with when I lived in Holland , I've known him almost 20 years and there's one more "TRUE" friend from back in my schooldays who has stood back to back with me when the it started kicking off.
It's better to have only one extremely good friend than a thousand okay ones.

i guess it IS normal that friends come and go.....
I still keep in touch with my childhood friend Camille. We go to colleges that are across the US, I'm here in MD and she is AALLLLL the way in Washington state. The last time we saw eachother was shortly after Halloween when she flew over because her older sister Natale had a baby boy. We went to IHOP and caught up. But we really don't 'hang out' like we used to. it's more through emailing and brief visits when the circumstances are right.

other than that....I have moved on to new friends. my best friendship I have formed in college, with Geoff, and I anticipate a lasting relationship into our adulthood. The funny thing is, we went to elementary school together and were in the same class but we never spoke! Years and years later we have run full circle and are the best buddies ever. Here's a picture of us:

That is the same way I am. I have been out of high school for the same amount of time and have one friend that I have known sense 5th grade, we are like brothers. We currently share an apartment together, my first his second, with his wife whom I had never meet till we started hanging out together less than a year and a half ago after drifting apart for 4 years.

I have another few friends that I see on a less than weekly basis. Then there are the friends that I see less often and when I do see them it's around weed.

I personally don't miss the people I don't see anymore. Though it is nice to see them every once-in-awhile, I don't think about them much nor do I go out of my way to talk to them.

in reference to what psychocat had to say, i've known too many people who claim they are trying to protect others when they back away, i think its all rubbish its for themselves, either through their own fears when someone gets too close, or an inability to see that sometimes one of those true, trustworthy and loyal friends is the person they are running from.:rasta:

21 now, and I keep in touch with the same group I had in high school, we all talk once a week or so, but we have our own things we do. Alot of them hang out with people I used to also hanf with in high school but wasnt great friend with, so it is weird seeing it recycled like that.

But yeah, people move on man, as interests become more obscured and a path is developed you lose those same conenctions with people.
