eh, it wasn't really a joke nor would i say it was on purpose. the announcer dude says...
"and they'll check the temperature every 5 minutes, in the same way a thirsty party-goer would"
then it cuts to a few seconds later....adam is talking
"k, its been 38 seconds, just another 4 minutes and 20 seconds to go."

so in the time it took him to go from "38 seconds" to "4 minutes and 20 seconds" it was about 2 seconds... which gives the reason behind the updated waiting time.

i would personally say it was more the video/sound editing dude who decided to toss that one in there.
