MacGuyver to the rescue!
So for a couple of years now, I have been thinking of how to make a quality vaporizor, without spending any money if I could help it. My biggest problem was finding a reliable heating element that I could dial in to whatever temperature I needed.
And FINALLY... after MUCH speculation and searching (all in vain) I stumbled upon the perfect key element. Literally.
I tripped on my girlfriends hair straightener, walking out of the bathroom... and then it hit me!! The wall hit me, that is, cause I kinda fell head-first into it. But after I got up, I picked up the hair-straightener and wondered how hot it got. Then I remembered I had recently bought an insta-read thermometer that measured up to 450 F for making the Green Dragon. PERFECT.
Well, it definitely gets hot enough, and whats better is I could dial it to the exact temperature I needed (380 F), and check it with my thermometer.
Now all I have to do is construct a sealed extraction chamber, and just perfect it.
I have the ceramic heating element... the rest will fall in line.GraziLovesMary Reviewed by GraziLovesMary on . MacGuyver to the rescue! most def. I would love to get a straightener with bigger ceramic plates, though.
Im trying to think of what I could use as a combustion chamber. I need something that can withstand high temperatures. Ive already decided that I want to vaporize by convection, not conduction, so I took some tin snips to a baking tray, perforated it, then folded it to create basically a wedge, crimped at one end, that I can put the weed into and clamp the straightener down onto.
I have used a number of different methods for smoke collection and extraction, and my most recent revision is one of those two or three gallon water jugs for the fridge with the little spout at the end. Fortunately, the spout on this particular one, is basically a rubber gasket that opens the seal via leverage when you press on a rubber knob in the center of the gasket. Anyhoo.. I turned it upside down so the spout was at the top, then cut a small rectangle out of the new bottom on the opposite side. I put the weed into the tray, set the straightener to the right temp, turned it on, and put it entirely inside the container. Then I sealed the hole up with a plastic bag and some electric tape. I let it heat up for a couple minutes, then just started taking breaths of the heavenly air through the spout.
Still VERY rough, but Im still working on ideas. Next, I want to deconstruct the straightener and find something to mount the plates, and the rest of the electronics without all that bulky plastic.

If it doesn't work as a vaporizer, maybe you can use it as a bud straightener.

lmao it definitely works as a vape, now I just need to perfect the chamber.

those thermometers the laser ones like your talking about are the shit, I use wm all the time when working on cars, especial for dum things like checking seat temp. Sounds easy but when your working and everything seams to be with in 5-10 deg. it gets frustrating so I pull out the laser thermometer, I use it alot for checking the Cat converter, on diagnoses

You can also make a nice vap using a low watt soldering iron. You just put your stuff in a container that will withstand strong temperature changes and hold the iron to it till it starts smoking. Ah, back in high school we did that...

Yeah I had thought about a soldering iron many times, but I want to make a better quality vape, which would require being able to fine tune the temp setting.
