It was bred on Vancouver Island and over the years became both stabilized and locally acclimated. It's a true IBL, meaning that if you buy a packet of seeds, you can reproduce them with a simple cross- all offspring will be uniform, and you can keep yourself supplied with beans indefinitely. It's very mold-resistant because the buds aren't super dense and they dry quickly after a rain.

Yes, it is a Sativa dominant strain. Full Sativas are not medically available in my area that I'm aware of, probably because they get very tall and bushy and are difficult to grow indoors.
The effects leave one clear-headed and energized, with a very nice buzz. It is a good anxiety/tension reliever and won't make you paranoid like some of the more knockout indicas. It also works well as a muscle relaxant, and gives a pleasant calming effect that can be felt in the body as well as promoting a positive mental state.
There is no "burn-out" afterwards where you feel drained or get a headache or anything, like in some of the stronger indicas, and it won't make you sluggish. It's good for the mornings and throughout the day. It's good for relieving headaches because of its smooth, clear-headed effect.

I do not know if the sweet island skunk, and sweet island are the same. I know about sweet island. It is a sativa, NOT bushy, its a tall and stringy plant. It LIKES HEAT to grow, not cool temps. The cooler temps are later, but in grow, and beginning flower it is heat that it wants. Not really what your looking for I guess, but figured I would pitch in a little!

ISS originated from enterprise seeds. they split up and formed two new companies...next generation and federation seeds. both kept certain lines ISS was in both. it is sativa and a fave amongst the med community in BC. noted for its clear cerebral high and pain killing qualities. there is not much lineage about this strain probably for good reason.

Sweet Island Skunk is not an IBL. We grew it out and it had phenos that were all over the place and that finished at very different times spread over a long period. Not worth the time.
