Paul's issue with Huckabee's Christmas ad: 'Fascism' will be 'carrying a cross'
Asked about Republican rival Mike Huckabee's Christmas-themed ad, which we wrote about yesterday and has attracted attention in part because of the image of a cross that many see hovering over Huckabee's shoulder, GOP presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul said this morning on FOX & Friends that:
"It reminds me of what Sinclair Lewis once said. He says, 'when fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.' Now I don't know whether that's a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross, like he is the only Christian or implying that subtly. So, I don't think I would ever use anything like that." (Fox has put video from some of the interview here. To see Paul talking about the Huckabee ad, though, you need to check this clip at YouTube.)

In order to get the Republican nomination he'll still have to appeal to the religious sector of the party.......comments like this is nothing but detrimental to his cause. I saw this on FOX this morning and was a bit suprised....they started off by congradulating him on the "Tea Party".

I agree P4B. He'll need that vote. Paul also said this about Faith (in reference to Mitt's speech):
"We live in times of great uncertainty when men of faith must stand up for American values and traditions before they are washed away in a sea of fear and relativism. I have never been one who is particularly comfortable talking about my faith in the political arena, and I find the pandering that typically occurs in the election season to be distasteful.
Our nation was founded to be a place where religion is freely practiced and differences are tolerated and respected. I come to my faith through Jesus Christ and have accepted him as my personal savior. At the same time, I have worked tirelessly to defend and restore individual rights and religious freedom for all Americans.
The recent attacks and insinuations, both direct and subtle, that Gov. Romney may be less fit to serve as president of our United States because of his faith fly in the face of everything America stands for. Gov. Romney should be judged fairly, on his record and his character, not on the church he attends."

He probably will take a hit for this but its probably the truth. I have no respect for politicians throughing religion in everybody's face. I never vote for a politician that uses religion as a point of his or her campaign.
As a side note. How many votes were lost to McCain by having that idiot democrat Lieberman's endorsement?

After that statement, I've become evermore content to set my vote right behind that man, Ron Paul. Religion does not belong in American politics, it is merely a method of personal strength that should not be taken advantage of for political attention.
He truly is a founding father, an American savior, and quite possibly our LAST chance for freedom. I'm voting for Ron Paul, whether he stands a chance of winning or being cheated.
We vote for who represents us, not for who stands a better chance of winning and I hope for a God that I don't even believe in, people understand that.

The only question left is if his support will grow in time to win in the primaries, it would be cutting it very close and as a realist I understand even with his exponentially growing support, time just isn't in the favor for Ron Paul to win the primaries. But this candidacy has surprised me many times over, so this news piece doesn't at all harm my confidence that Ron Paul will be in the oval office in about a year or so. I do, of course, understand if you still don't agree with that possibility

Religion has nothing to do with politics. It is sad when our politicians are able to sway votes just because of their religion. I do not think it should be allowed, and anyone who even starts to run his campaign on any religious platform should be out of the race.

Personally, for Ron Paul to call Huchabee a facist based on this vid is ridiculous! If this thing was turned around I can think of at least 5 people in here that would be livid regarding the statement.:wtf:
