no the spikes are not a problem at all. when your taking a hit and your looking at the flame, there is a clear pathy to the end with no spikes, but their overhanging your veiw lol. as soon as i saw it i had to have it. i like to collect odd pipes

it was 45 all together which isnt bad considering if i was to buy a piece like this at my local headshop it would be around 80
