If you're going to have an endoscopy on Monday, you'd be wise not to irritate your esophagus and throat with smoke until that's over. I'm assuming you're going to be cleaning out your gut, too, in advance of the colonsocopy, so eating cannabis in food isn't really an option for you, either.

You sound like you're one of those who's bound and determined to smoke no matter what, so you may not heed this advice anyway. The reason to keep your esophagus unirritated is because that tube is going to scrape you on its way down, and you don't want any unnecessary irritation in there to increase the possibility of bleeding or potentially obscure any ulcerations or problems they may be looking at with the scope. I wouldn't drink alcohol, either, by the way. Interaction with the sedative they give you is also a concern, but I think the greater concern is to minimize irritation.

Tell your gastroenterologist how much cannabis (or cigarettes) you smoke and tell your anesthesiologist how much cannabis you've had within the last week or so. They need to have that information so they can treat you appropriately.

Yes, definitely tell them you have a sore throat. Actually, if you get to the hospital or office on Monday and still have that sore throat (or a cold or infection), they may not go ahead with the procedure. They usually like people who're having routine procedures to be in well health before the procedure just so the risk of any complications is as low as possible. Here where I live, asking whether you feel well that day and taking your temperature is a standard part of the pre-procedure workup.

It's unlikely that you'd bleed from an endoscopy, but you want to keep that likelihood down. If he's scoping you to see if you have ulcerations or, say, herniated blood vessels in your esophagus, among other things, any irritation to the mucosal (surface) layer could increase your changes of bleeding, and bleeding into the esophagus isn't a good thing, especially when they have a tube down your throat. It would not only make their jobs harder of detecting any problems; it could also cause you to aspirate fluid and complicate potential breathing problems, which wouldn't be good when you're heavily sedated.

Definitely tell the doctor how much weed you smoke and how much recently. That'll help them adjust the dosage of your sedative properly. Fortunately, Monday's not very far away, so after the procedure's over, you should be fine to enjoy your purps. Good luck!

That'll be up to your doctor, DrDoja. I can't tell you for sure that they'll cancel the procedure, but if you haven't cleaned out your gut, they definitely can't go through with the colonoscopy. Here where I live, they don't usually want to do procedures on people who're sick because the risk of infection and complications is higher, but that certainly doesn't mean that's standard procedure across the board. Your doc will have to decide what to do in your particular case.

You might want to put in an after-hours call to your doctor and let him/her know what's going on with your cold and the fact that you can't keep down your electrolyte-laxative solution.
