green light 360 degree system (this is cool)
with a 150w cfl, this would be a great little system for personal grows.

I don't think you would expect much out of it, if anything.

why would you even wanna waist money on that thing. no room for roots and you would be buying extra junk. buying a bucket and that cfl would probably be cheaper than that thing

Well personally I think it's pretty cool. There is room for roots, thats the bag of dirt under the set-up. In fact, I want to try this some time. A globe scrog. A GOG, or globe of green.
I like all areas of the plant getting equal amounts of light. Well actually, I have not yet been able to find out the shape of the light intensity for CFLs. I know that a globe shape like that would be perfect for a small HID light, since that's the shape of the light intensity. Actually I think this would be the most efficient use of HID lighting that I have ever heard of.
OK, I am going to try this at some point in the future. It will be a little bigger than shown in the photo, and I will use a small container under the globe for a shallow DWC or drip system. I will use a 150W HPS light and a computer fan at the very bottom, blowing up on the light. The globe will be wrapped with wire netting, with the openings about 2x3". In the netting there will 3 or 4 holes that will allow me to reach the inside areas of the plants, for pruning, LST or whatever. Not much need for a reflector, but it probably would be best to at least have a small one. Hmmm, or maybe a bigger one, that covers almost the top half of the globe.
No wait, since its Globe of Green I will have about 4 stationary MH lights and 4 HPS. When it's time to harvest, I move the 4 vegged globes to the HPS lights, and the rooted cuttings into 4 new veg globes. Relatively short, or non existent veg time maybe, could eliminate the MH lights. Room to walk between each globe. All chest high, so no need to bend and stress ruptured disks. I'm liking it. Plus I think it looks cool.
Just brainstorming here.

Oh yeah, I think you could easily make a custom globe from copper wire.

that's crazy talk opie.
and i love it!
i was reading some info on the coliseum, and it said that the most efficiant sys. would be a 360 degree sys.
but i can see room for improvement - what if you put lights on the OUTSIDE of the globe as well? hmmmm....

So crazy it just might work. I've always wanted to say that.

OK, maybe one HID per globe, and some fluoro strip lighting down either side of each row of 4, out of heads reach but close enough to the plants to do some good. Yes, I'm liking that.

dude! I am gunna build one of these globs and do an outdoor summer grow one of these summers. or maybe even this summer. I'll probly hand build it and hang it outdoors but after I have veged the plant in it indoors under a lot of cfl lights for a few months.
then put it outdoors to flower.
but this is just a maybe idea for me. and a cool sounding one at that.
