Ike Turner Dies at 76
Even Turner's ex-wife, Tina, has gone on record admitting that the absusive scenes in the movie were exaggerated, but the first thing most people think of when they hear Ike's name is "wife-beater". When Ike was in jail for drugs, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in the early 1990's, Tina showed up on his behalf. They had been divorced for over a decade, but she knew who made her an international star.
Does it seem right that when a very talented man makes a few mistakes, that all of his important artistic contributions should be forgotten and denied? If we did this to all artists whose personal lives were in a shambles at times, we'd have a pretty lackluster culture.
