HPS EXPLOSION?!?!

wow, no bueno for me today, i JUST began my budding phase yesterday and got my 12/12 all set up, even remodeled my grow room for budding and on the first day i come back to check on my babies, my HPS is Broken in peices... BRAND NEW, as in, NEVER USED, Is there something i missed? or should i just be trying to get my money back? i vegged with MH for about 9 weeks and just switched it up yesterday... anyone ever had this problem? and whats my best plan of action until i get a replacement? using the MH til i find a good HPS? i hope so cuz thats what im doing. by the way it was only a 400 watt HPS and my grow space is about 4 ft wide, 4 1/2 ft long, by about 7 1/2 ft tall, im sorry i dont have pictures yet, im lazy, let me know if they'll help, oh and i get to pay for a speeding ticket today... help me out please! i'll be checking this thing a lot today so if there's more info needed just ask, i appreciate it guys...

Yeah... do you have a HPS ballast, or did you put a HPS bulb with your MH ballast?
Was there any possible way for water to drip onto the hot bulb?

You can flower with a 400MH just fine. Many growers use them all the way. Wow...9 weeks veg?...thats taking your time...:thumbsup:

What brand of HPS?...what kind of ballast?...cool tube?...curious, more info, please.

it actually IS a HPS ballast, and i had the MH hooked to it, but i bought the stuff all together, and it wasnt cheap, ha, but it says its a HPS ballast with MH conversion bulb so i ASSUMED, (which is usually a bad idea anyway), that it meant it was all cool and actually designed for the HPS, and the MH was on 24/0 for the full 9 weeks without ANY problems, worked like a charm....

but no about the water, i keep water out of my room until i water the girls

tell me how the hell i post pictures on here and i'll show you whats up but the brand is Grow Power and the ballast was made for HPS and im not sure what a cool tube is...? sorry

Did you get oil on the bulb from your hands? You should always wipe your bulbs down with a terry cotton cloth of some sort to remove any oil. I used socks

Cool. I hadn't thought of that. Oil from you hands. Damn. I'm gonna start wiping the bulbs off after screwin' em in. Good thinkin'. Thanks.

This is a very common misconception, HPS and MH bulbs will NOT explode or lose life due to oils from your hands on the glass. Only halogen bulbs are susceptible to this.

I do wipe mine down though as the less crud on the globe, the more the light penetrates it.

anyway, turns out im getting a new bulb so i dont know what the hell that was all about but thanks for the help, here's what im workin with, let me know what you think, my ferts, broken HPS, my MH bulb at work, and of course the fruits of my labor
