    Scrog Question

im looking to start growing in an old cabinet that is about 3 feet -tall and about 4 1/2 feet wide and about 1 1/2 feet deep

i recently saw a picture of a grow under Scrog and i wasnt too sure about it. It seemed as if the plant was growing on one side of the small cab and then trained to grow horizontal all the way to the other side of the cabinet. I'm wondering if this is possible to do with training it with twist ties then suspending it with some ties from the top. In my case this would work perfect for the cab I want to make. Anyone have any answers??:rastasmoke:

    Scrog Question

You are wasting your time with that small of a cabinet. Your light (if using a decent mh/hps) will be what 8"-1' tall? that leaves 2.5 feet left and your plants need to be about 18" away from these lights so....just not tall enough I would say even with a SCROG grow.

Further more, using twist ties to train your plants is not the same as a SCROG where you allow the buds to grow through the spaces in the screen, which in turn allows more light to all parts of the plant.

But, to answer your question, yes you can train your plants to grow a variety of ways, provided you have the right setup for it. Training can be done with anything that can tie the plant/branch/etc. in the desired position, doesn't have to be ties. Just remember the plant is always searching for a way to grow towards that light.

    Scrog Question

Three feet is kinda short, leaving a scrog as probably your best alternative for a box that size. But, you're probably going to have to get some really good fluorescent lights - like some T-5's - to pull it off. You should figure 9" for the pots + 6 for the plant = 15", leaving you 21" for the light and buds - so, it'll be tight, but it's doable.

You need to study up on scrog's before you try one, but your impression is essentially correct. You install a screen in your box about 6" above the top of your pots. (This distance can be greater, but in your case you want it about as close as you can get it.) The plant grows under the screen, the buds grow up through the screen.

Good luck with your project!
