I believe socialized medicine has it's place and can be very helpful, but to use it exclusively is just foolish. We have that here in Canada (albiet not nearly as many programs are covered as you'd think) and the wait-times are rediculous, the equipment is outdated (not horribly and universaly, but we're behind the US), and there's a doctor shortage. The best medical systems in the world utilize two-tier systems that employ socialized medical for the general populace and corporate-run medical systems for profit. It allows those who can pay to get out of the line of the free system, thus shortening the wait-line significantly. And the wait times really are the biggest issue here in Canada.


As for Moore, while I agree and disagree with him on this issue and that, I have no respect for the man as he distorts issues massively to suit his own ends. He portrayed France, Britain, and the rest as though they had strictly socialized systems, which is a completely and utter lie. They utilize privitized medical as well, which is what makes their socialized system viable. Yet if you only got your info from sicko, you'd think Europe has the medical system of Canada.
Speaking of which, Canada doesn't have the Utopian medical system portrayed in the movie. I appreciate it a lot as I would have spent thousands of MRI's, neurologists, rheumatologists etc which I could in no way afford, but the wait times were rediculous. I waited 2 years to get my MRI and only got in because after all that time I started calling over and over, harrasing them into submission. My doctor (really smart guy) actually told me to do just that, lest I never get in.
