I get this pretty frequently when starting seedlings. What's probably holding the cotyledons together is a protective sheath that acts as a second waxy barrier between the shell and the ungerminated sprout. Sometimes this gets stuck to the sprout just after dropping the seed shell. Just take it between your fingernails, and GENTLY slide it off of the leaves. As long as your not overly forceful, you shouldn't damage the sprout. Try not to move the stem a whole lot while you're doing this. Once the cotyledons spread apart, it should resume growth as normal.
Mr. Clandestine Reviewed by Mr. Clandestine on . Quick question on seedling Has anyone ever had there newly popped out of the soil seedling have their cotyledons stuck together? I'd take a pic but my camera won't focus on it well. My cotyledons are stuck together at the tip and keeping the true leaves from coming out, although one is trying to push out from the side of the cotyledon. Should I be worried? And is there something I could do to help it along? Maybe a little micro surgery???? hahhahahaa Thanks for the help. :rastasmoke: Rating: 5
