Will this exhaust 1000 watt HPS?

Exhaust has nothing to do with how close you can put your light. That is unless you are using a cool tube or a vented hood hooked up to your exhaust. Lights "throw" heat as well. Some throw more heat, some less. Hps throws less heat then mh and cmh even less then that. So most use the back of the hand method as to how close your light should be.
Do not get a 1000 watt for that box or you will have problems with heat. A 600 will do fine. Get a 6 inch vortex and yes they make lots of noise. Get or make a duct muffler, mount fan in box, ballast outside. The bulb makes noise as well.

I understand this, I am getting an aircooled hood therefore I can put the light closer, right?

Is it possible to sleep in the same room with all of the noise? Any recommendations on a great HPS bulb?

Welcome to my world. But I don't just have the 1000HPS and exhausts... oh no. Add a pump, airstone, constant-flow NFT (water noise), and 3 more HIDs and you have what is all within 10 feet of my bed. The beauty of it is that if you have herb, you can sleep through it, and actually the water is relaxing. Why do ya THINK I grow the Black Indica... lol

    Spring for the hortilux

Well, it sounds doable to me I didn't catch the Black Indica reference however...

Will spring for the hortilux EN
(it says it has 89,000 lumens and has an enhanced spectrum, but there's one with 95,000 lumens, the 89 with more spectrum is better right?)
How long will this bulb last? With 3 months on 18 hours and 9 months 12? IYO...

I have also made up my mind to get the 600hps electronic, horilux bulb and 6'' blower with scrubber

    You're vegging under the HPS?
    Ooooooh bad idea.
A switchable digi ballast is not as much more $$ as you would think. If you are only buying one HID get a switchy and a MH bulb to veg with.
Black Indica is a head-kicking insomnia/pain management strain.

Hey, despite being a noob, first grow.. I'm using a 600w digital in a cabinet with 8 sq. ft and about 38 cubic ft of room in the grow chamber. I picked up a MH conversion bulb and it's working great for veg. What I've learned on a couple of warm days is cooling the box this summer is going to be a bitch. Currently, my lighting is in a sealed reflector with a dedicated cooling system, closed loop separate from the intake/exhaust system for the chamber. I have a Suncort 6" duct fan drawing air over the light and it seems to be working well, but I'm expecting to have to increase air flow during the warmer months.

In your original question you posted a substantial fan w/carbon filter.. Seems to me keeping your light colling system separate is the best approach.

    Here's what I'm doing:

    Good luck!!

    From Lumatek's website.

    why choose electronic ballasts?
More lumen output - up to 30% more lumens output than some old style magnetic ballasts ...More light equals more yield. We urge you to test this yourself with a good quality light meter. Be sure to also check how much power the ballast is using with an ammeter as many so called 600w magnetic ballasts now draw up to 750w as standard to try to keep up with Lumatekā??s lumen output.
More lumens generated per watt of electricity consumed - Lumatek ballast have increased efficacy over magnetic ballasts. They lose fewer watts from the power supply to the lamp. This a power factor of 95%+. The high frequency output results in low power loss at the cathodes in addition to better overall power management.
Stable light output - excellent for Pharmaceutical-agriculture, laboratories and other uses where precise regularized output is essential.
Fast start-up - It reaches full brightness in under one minute; magnetic ballasts typically take about twenty minutes.
    Completely silent
Small compact design - 600watt 120v ballast weighs less than 4.5 kilos compared to almost 20 kilos for magnetic ballasts.
    Produce less heat
Cut-off circuitry - cut off when a short is detected. For ultimate safety.
Longer bulb life - Lumen output loss over time, with the correct lamp, is dramatically less than with magnetic ballasts.
Fully interchangeable - Lumatek ballasts can light both HPS and MH bulbs (excluding the 750w which is HPS only).

So I'd just need to purchase an MH and an HPS bulb. However I've herd many times you can produce great plants with just using the HPS for the entire grow.

thanks for the post dude, but I looked at your grow box and I have no idea what's going on. Not that I'm confused, but it looks like the blower isn't even attached to the lights?

The light in my cabinet has it's own ventilation system with a 6" duct fan that draws air over the light. The intake/output are the two 4" vents you see on the upper portion of the back of the box. I use a CAP AIR-3DN to control the environment for the grow chamber, which has active intake and exhaust fans. With my garage in the low 30's I can keep the box in the mid 70's. If the ambient temp starts to climb so do the inside temps. I'm in the process of having a whole house back-up generator installed. Once the electrician completes the work, I'm going to put 2 dryer vents in the back of my garage and and hook-up the intake and exhaust to them with the idea that the cooler outside air will help. Bottom line, you'll spend a bunch of $$ on cooling to keep an enclosed space at the right temp for your plants. My other concern is night temperature when I go to flower later in the month. I've ordered a 120v 24" baseboard heater that I'm going to mount in the box. The CAP AIR will control this also. Originally I had a small portable electric with a fan, but I'm out of room with 9 - 12" pots in the cab. I'm sure the population will shrink once I weed out any males, but I didn't want to cook the roots while waiting for flowering..

    Hope this helps you!
