    Ideal pH in soil?

My tap water hovers right at about 7.0, but the pH of my soil must be lower...because the runoff is generally in the area of 6.5-6.7. I've yet to experience problems with nutrient lockout that was caused by pH alone. The pH has fluctuated before, from very acidic to very alkaline, but that was due to excess salt build up in the soil, overbearing nutrients, and the like. After a quick flush or two, it almost always returns back to a stable pH.
