problems in Flower
I am in the 9th week of flower of plants that I let get way to big, in soil (stinkys formula), 12/12 light, kool bloom 0-10-10 1 1/2tbs 1/wk, last 2 weeks I added a 7-3-3 b/c there were slight N def. showing, 1 1/2 tbs molasses 1/wk, I was using uvb in flower but have stopped until I get her healthy again, temps 84F lights on 70F off, humidity is 30%., 400 watt HPS 4Lx4Wx6H room, mylar all around. Ph of water/nutes 6.6 run of 6.7, in 3 gallon nursery pots. There is a slight chance the temps drop as low as 60 at night and I will have to get a recording thermometer.
I actually harvested one last week b/c I didn't have a microscope yet and I assumed these traits were from end of life cycle, the fan leaves yellowing, and dying off, but after purchasing a microscope I can see and tell in the smoke that the trichs are cloudy but hardly any amber at all, so obviously it wasn't at the end of it's life cycle. I over vegged going for about 8 weeks waiting for my hps so they got tall, and this extra time in veg should make my flowering longer.
I now have younger plants exhibiting similar problems. The stems are becoming woody on the bud site branches(sorry don't know there name) and purple, the fan leaves are dying off from the bottom up and there are a few brown spots on the fan leaves after they have become severely yellowed, and the tips of the leaves are dried and curl up.
I don't have a camera but I found a pic that looks pretty much exactly like it and I will attach it. I can't put the link up bc it is through a seed site. according to them this pic shows,
Sulfate is involved in protein synthesis and is part of the amino acids, cystine and thiamine, which are the building blocks of proteins. It is active in the structure and metabolism in the plant. It is essential for respiration and the synthesis and breakdown of fatty acids.
The initial symptoms are the yellowing of the entire leaf including veins usually starting with the younger leaves. Leaf tips may yellow and curl downward. Sulfur deficiencies are light green fruit or younger leaves with a lack of succulence. Elongated roots and woody stem. Although it's hard to see in figure 19, the upper stems of this plant are purple. Although many varieties of cannabis do get purplish stems, the trait generally extends the entire length of the plant's stem, and not just near the top as in this specimen.sd6515 Reviewed by sd6515 on . problems in Flower I am in the 9th week of flower of plants that I let get way to big, in soil (stinkys formula), 12/12 light, kool bloom 0-10-10 1 1/2tbs 1/wk, last 2 weeks I added a 7-3-3 b/c there were slight N def. showing, 1 1/2 tbs molasses 1/wk, I was using uvb in flower but have stopped until I get her healthy again, temps 84F lights on 70F off, humidity is 30%., 400 watt HPS 4Lx4Wx6H room, mylar all around. The plant IS nearing the end of its life cycle and yellowing of the low leaves is normal.
You say there's a chance they could be getting cold at night and cold soil combined with any pH issue you might have will cause symptoms exactly like you are seeing- a multi-nute lockout, in your case N, Ca, and S are pretty apparent. The N is a no-brainer since your bloom fert doesn't have any, and feeding once with grow fert was a good call. Next time, use your grow fert for the first 2 weeks of flower so you don't have to give any later. It's better that way.
If the plants are on a cold floor, put them up off it. If you are already seeing some amber, you're really close to harvest anyway.
You're going to want to give a good flush as well. Some of what you describe sounds like you've got a salt buildup in the soil. Flush well and feed immediately with a balanced fertilizer- that grow fert you've got would be appropriate if it contains micronutes- and then on the next watering return to your regular flower fert.
Lastly, keep on top of your pH! Excess fert residue in the soil will eventually cause problems.
