Did I get oversold on the Carbon Filter?
Hey everyone-
It's getting that time that I need to add a carbon filter. I went down to my trusty store with what I thought I needed in mind and I walked out with about 2x that. I have a 12 x 18 x 8 foot room but I use about 12 x 4 feet right now. I might increase but I can't see using more than 12 x 12 ever.
What do I need?

I would go with a Vortex 449 CFM fan I think that is the CFM and about a 25LB carbon scrubber. I use that with 2 1K's going, and different smelly strains and works fine, I vent out side along with that.
I alternate back and forth with another oder nutraliser, but mainly keep that for the rest of the house outside of the grow room, but even when it is not going, the scrubber takes care of the smell. I have also used a Vortex 279 CFM I think it was and a 15 LB scrubber for a 1K grow in a 4x4 cab with good results.
Adieu

look for Elicent if possible best manufacture for inline fans (5 year warranty), Can Filters work best for Carbon filter.. I'm thinking for a room that size you'd be looking at a Can33 or a Can75 for an area that size

Overbuilding your ventilation is a good thing. Also the Vortex fans have a 10 year factory warranty. The 6 in 449 CFM fan that Blue Bear talks about is an awesome fan and moves a ton of air. I have mine on a homemade rheostat (dimmer switch) to be able to dial up and down the flow rate. The switch cost me 5 bucks at Lowes.

BobBong is right about CanFan. They make good filters and good fans. I use both. At some trade show one of theirs out-sucked 2 of some other brand for the same supposed CFM. My understanding is however, that CanFan carbon filters make it difficult to change carbon, unlike some other brands. Haven't tried it yet on mine, but I'm probably due. Maybe I won't worry about it until I start smelling weed venting to the outdoors, which hasn't happened once in the four or five years it's been since I installed it.
Vortex is an excellent brand which I also use.
And MVP is absolutely right. Always overbuild, at least a little, when it comes to venting. You will be so sorry if you try to scrimp and save in that dept.
