    one my favorites rarely heard

    Artist .........Lynyrd Skynyrd
    Album ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd
    Song ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Things Goin On

Have you ever lived down in the ghetto?
Have you ever felt the cold wind blow?
If you don't know what I mean,
Won't you stand up and scream?
'Cause there's things goin' on that you don't know.

Too many lives they've spent across the ocean.
Too much money been spent upon the moon.
Well, until they make it right
I hope they never sleep at night
    They better make some changes
    And do it soon.

They're goin ruin the air we breathe
    Lord have mercy.
They're gonna ruin us all, by and by.
    I'm telling you all beware
I don't think they really care
I think they just sit up there
    And just get high.

    peace

the original band was the first band i wanted to try to play its songs,
i was into the beatles and bluegrass, and country and did not like elvis much.
heard the sounds of them guitars and them soulfull words being belted out
and was instantly changed into a guy that walked a lil taller in a crowd.

the fact is when they crashed in 77,i was totally floored by the news.
    i lost my hero's

Judy and Melody VanZant founded the Freebird Foundation, Inc. in 1990 to honor the late Ronnie VanZant, original lead singer and songwriter for the Lynyrd Skynyrd band. Originally the Foundation was intended to raise money to construct the Ronnie VanZant Memorial Park near Lake Asbury, Florida. Since the Park's groundbreaking in 1992, the Freebird Foundation, Inc has taken on many addition roles -- including a series of scholarship programs benefitting local high school students.

Skynyrd fans have supported the Foundation, the Park and the scholarship programs by joining the Foundation and by purchasing an inscribed brick to be used in constructing the Ronnie VanZant Teen Center. The Foundation also offered opportunities for the fans to own rare Skynyrd collectibles as well as Freebird... The Movie memorabilia. The Foundation took a more active role in the preservation of the Lynyrd Skynyrd legend and the promotion of the band's future through this web site and by travelling with the Lynyrd Skynyrd band. The non-profit Freebird Foundation, Inc. offered the fans a unique way to honor the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd band.

    Simple Man

    (Gary Rossington - Ronnie VanZant)

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
    And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time... Don't live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you'll find love,
    And don't forget son,
    There is someone up above.

    (Chorus)
And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Won't you do this for me son,
    If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
    Is to be satisfied.

    (Chorus)

Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
    Is to be satisfied.

    (Chorus)

    Tuesday's Gone

    (Allen Collins - Ronnie VanZant)

Train roll on, on down the line,
Won't you please take me far away?
Now I feel the wind blow outside my door,
Means I'm leaving my woman behind.
    Tuesday's gone with the wind.
My woman's gone with the wind.

    And I don't know where I'm going.
I just want to be left alone.
Well, when this train ends I'll try again,
But I'm leaving my woman at home.

    (chorus)
    Tuesday's gone with the wind.
    Tuesday's gone with the wind.
    Tuesday's gone with the wind.
My woman's gone with the wind.

Train roll on many miles from my home,
See, I'm riding my nlues away.
Tuesday, you see, she had to be free
But somehow I've got to carry on.

    (chorus)

    all american song

    Red, White & Blue

We don't have no plastic L.A. Frynds,
ain't on the edge of no popular trend.
Ain't never seen the inside of that magazine GQ.
We don't care if you 're a lawyer, or a texas oil man,
or some waitress busting ass in some liquor stand.
    If you got Soul
We hang out with people just like you

    My hair's turning white,
    my neck's always been red,
    my collar's still blue,
    we've always been here
just trying to sing the truth to you.
    Yes you could say
    we've always been,
    Red, White, and Blue

Ride our own bikes To Sturgis
    we pay our own dues,
    smoking camels, drinking domestic brews
You want to know where I have been
    just look at my hands
Yeah, I've driven by the White House,
    Spent some time in jail.
Momma cried but she still wouldn't pay my bail.
    I ain't been no angel,
    But even God, he understands.

    My hair's turning white,
    my neck's always been red,
    my collar's still blue,
    we've always been here
just trying to sing the truth to you.
    Yes you could say
    we've always been,
    Red, White, and Blue

    Yeah that's right!

My Daddy worked hard, and so have I,
paid our taxes and gave our lives
    to serve this great country
so what are they complaining about

Yeah we love our families, we love our kids
you know it is love that makes us all so rich
    That's where were at,
If they don't like it they can just
    get the HELL out!

    Yeah!

    My hair's turning white,
    my neck's always been red,
    my collar's still blue,
    we've always been here
just trying to sing the truth to you.
    Yes you could say
    we've always been,
    Red, White, and Blue

Did you know that former guitarist Ed King (whom Steve Gaines had replaced) was a former member of The Strawberry Alarm Clock, playing guitar on their best known psychedelic nugget from '67 "Incense and Peppermints"
