Purpose of Bowl top (piece with hole in it) for a bong?

Im a bit of a newbie, i have a homemade bong but the bowl and stem , with top, I got from my local headshop (planet k). am i supposed to put the top on when i light it and if so whats the purpose?

it's called a cap, and it doesn't really matter.... imo, it's a waste of time... it's supposed to help conserve your bud AND keep alot of smoke from coming off the bowl... but yes, when using one you're supposed to load your bowl, then screw the cap on and hit it like normal.

There are vaporizer bowls that fit bongs and vaporizer pipes, both probably look like what you're describing.

For like, 5 years of smoking, I could never figure out what the bong cap is for. Now I use it to smoke roaches or sometimes pinners in one go. You just put ur joint in the hole, screw the cap on, light it, suck back, fill your bong whilst simultaneously burning the whole joint down, then take out the peice & clear the bowl. I rarely do it, but it works and can be very good for hard-to-smoke roaches. Also, every once in a while, I will roll a pinner, stick it in the choke of one of my pipes and then use the bowl as a choke in order to smoke the joint outa the pipe.

Lets just pretend thats what the bong cap is for.

there called chimneys and they suck. whn you use one the weed will burn straight down the middle. they are how ever good for if your say at work so that the smoke coming off the bowl gets trapped inside eliminating some smell. kinda like a sneak-a-toke. also good for if you dont finish the bowl to keep the left overs from falling out into your pocket.

simple remedy for a simple person: shake the bowl!:thumbsup:

weed wont come out and you can smoke it all w/o opening it!
