which clone method for the newb?

hi guys i got ONE plant from seed off a half pound of KILL purps...well its at 3 weeks 5 inches right now...now im wondering what would be easier/less stressful for this maybe-mother plant

    1. take some cuts while still in 24/0 veg and dont kno the sex till i grow out the clones?

    2. take "flowering cuts" from the plant but i will kno the sex for sure...but i heard flowering clones are harder to take care of?

Just FYI... chances are VERY good that the seed in that purps was from a hermie pollination and will be female.
What I'd do is take clones when you have a large, healthy enough plant to give you a bunch of them, because you may not get good survival % on your first try. And leave enough cloneable shoots on the plant to go back and try again if you have a problem, since it sounds like this is a strain you'd really like to hold on to.

clone before flowering, or your gonna be reducing the ability of the cut branches to heal and grow buds.

i say build a bubble cloner! I almost guarantee success! I think its the best for newbs. My very first time with the bubble cloner i got 7 out 8 and would've gotten 8 out of 8 if i didnt drop the light on the last clone and smashed her!

Build a bubble cloner bro its 15 bucks tops and almost guarantees a rooted cutting. Some strains take longer than others but i can say that my C99's rooted in under 8 days but the ones i took in flower took 3-4 weeks. But it has rooted and looks pretty ugly but its growing now.

Give the bubble cloner a shot though!

I agree with Stinky. Grow a healthy mother and leave her in veg. Even before the mother gets very big, you can take just one clone and, as soon as it has roots, put it under 12/12 to sex the plant.

There's a good sticky thread in this section that explains the cloning process in detail.

    Again, KB... wtf.

You can flower a plant just fine after taking clones off her. You just have to give her 2-3 weeks to recover. You should have active new growth with a couple nodes on it at the node below each cut site. That tells you it's recovered. Cloning and pruning are no different- you take active, hormone-rich upper tips and remove them from the plant. Cloning, you just take larger chunks and keep them alive. Pruning, you are just trying to get the hormone production switched. The end is different but the physiological process is the same.

KB, your post if taken literally would then mean that you can't flower a plant that has been pruned, FIMmed, topped, pinched, or cut from in any way.

Anyway in my siggy there's a sticky that contains cloning info, and there's a new sticky that is a picture tutorial for a simple cloning procedure.
