That will work, but you will have to find calibration solution that is 6.8 as opposed to 7 and such. Find a pen that calibrates to 7.

No you can not. In order to test soil ph you will have to spend some bucks on a quality meter. What growers do is just buy a digital ph pen and test run-off water.
Here's a great pen from a great company. This pen along with some 7.0 calibration solution and storage solution and you are good to go.

you can do a soil runoff test. ph the water to 6.8 and collect some water from the runoff. keep on flushing out til the runoff is collected and at 6.8
heres a good video on the site to explain even better about ph meters and ph testing

I would recommend the Hanna pHep4, it has worked great for me. Click here to check it out.

I bought from this outfit and they included free calibration buffers. They are also a real brick and mortar store and therefore provide good customer service.

I got this one: Milwaukee pH600-AQ Pocket pH Meter Aquarium/Pool/pH 600 - (eBay item 280159031764 end time Nov-30-07 20:42:24 PST) from a shop on eBay ... his eBay 'store' has several good items besides this tester ... I tried to find better prices on a couple items, and couldn't ...:smokin:
