Those chemicals that cause a runners high are endogenous opioids, not cannabinoids. The opiods are things like enkephalins, endorphins, and others...
You are indeed right. THC is out of the blood 2 - 4 hours after smoking, and the cannabinoids are stored in the fat cells. Or the inactive THC if you like. Releasing them wont get you high, coz none of it is active.
