It was because the Sudanese got word that the SAS were on their way to dish out some serious abuse!

She has been granted a presidential pardon which means this storm in a teacup can now be left to the obscurity it deserves.

Gillian, the teacher who was arrested for blasphemy, was likely very well paid to teach. She only started teaching in Sudan in August 2007.

Gillian had been working at the school -- popular with wealthy Sudanese and expatriates -- since August, after leaving her position as deputy head teacher at a primary school in Liverpool this summer, said the head of Unity High School, Robert Boulos.

Now it turns out that this whole incident was sparked by a grudge-bearing ex-employee, in an effort to close down the school, who reported the teacher's alleged heresy to the authorities.
