Why Oprah Won't Help Obama
In polls and focus groups, voters continue to express doubts about Obama's readiness for the presidency, particularly when compared with Clinton. Some analysts have taken to saying that "experience" is a threshold question â?? that Obama does not need to be seen as more ready than Clinton, just ready enough to do the job. That might be true (or it might not), but the evidence suggests that many voters still have reservations about the Illinois Senator. And the Clinton campaign plainly intends to do what it can to undermine her rival on this very point between now and January.
So yes, expect loud, rousing rallies in all three early voting states when Oprah Winfrey comes to town with her friend Barack Obama in early December, with gobs of media attention, raucous crowds, emotion and great pictures. But don't expect those events to do anything productive to allow Obama to get over the biggest hurdle standing between him and the White House. American voters are not looking for a celebrity or talk show sidekick to lead them. Obama is an intelligent and thoughtful potential President, but Winfrey's imprimatur is unlikely to convey those traits to many undecided voters.
In that respect, Winfrey's events might even be â?? dare it be said â?? counterproductive.

I would have thought conservatives and liberals alike would agree that corporations in political pockets is a problem. Hollywood, evengelical Christians, and many more influence political ideologies. That's inevitable and representative of the population. Corporate sponsorship is far more problematic as their motivations aren't about left/right values, they're about profitting off biased legislation that affects workers, economy, environment, and free market.
You don't think right-wing/religious public figures are influencing votes the other way?

What do you call "special interests" then? Millions of supporters donating their funds? Corporations? churches? Atlantians on a hidden island? Just the fact that money has been risen isn't necessarily pandering to special interests, unless you want to expand the term to anybody who supports their political ideology; and that covers fundraising for any politician.
So far all I see here is complaining that Obama supporters are publicly supporting Obama. Good God.... I'm much more worried about them taking payouts from corporations, political extremist groups, foreign governments, paramilitary organizations etc. Groups who's power, and competition, will be directly affected by government legislation, not just lefties getting their lefty legislation by their lefty governments (and vice versa).

There is a very evil presence in our government - organizations and corporations whose only agenda are power and profit. This evil group is commonly referred to as "special interests". That is pretty much common knowledge. Diverting the discussion to a debate over the meaning of such a term is, well, silly.
I've never read any of your posts before, Ozarks. For all I know I may agree with you on many issues. All I'm saying is, this isn't a very good way to get your point across.
