I can't believe those plants actually grew inside of those cups. You're trying to skimp out on a decent pot for your plant/s? Come on!! They are cheap and you can even find them all around your neighborhood. If you're not willing to invest some time in looking for a decent pot you shouldn't even be growing. I don't mean to be harsh but it's the least you can do. Alright I understand it's an idea but you say it's not for you but for your cheap friend so I stand by what I said. Anyways, I don't know how those people achieved what they did in those small cups but a rootbound plant is not a happy one.

I have to say those plants look lovely. I'm sure that only took whoever did that about 3-4 years to learn to grow beautiful plants like that especially considering they've tweaked nature around quite a bit to get there.

Hope your friend isn't cheap on time and research as well as money.

    Good luck.

Holy smokes, for the size of the those pots/cups those gals look lovely.Just think how great they would have turned out if you had decent sized pots.Spring for some three gallon pots (maybe 1.90$ each or so).If you are thinking about DWC and concerned about money,it might be best for you to stay with soil for right now.Not that DWC is terribly expensive but the start up costs might be a bit more than what you want to spend right now.Ill be setting up my DIY DWC in a few weeks and Im planning on spending between 400-600$ for 4 tubs. There are some things you can skimp on and some you just cant (like air pumps,etc.).

I would say all in all with the results you had from those plants in those tiny containers you should do well with a setup that allows for more room for your roots.Good luck.Take care,be well, and most of all be safe.

I believe he found the pix, and wants to know how to do the same.

A few years back, to reduce the 'footprint' of my grow, I grew out some Inca Spirit in 1 gallon containers, but quality and quantity definatelly suffered. I imagine that the ladies in the photos are either re-grows, or the tap root has been trimmed every few months during veg. (like bonsai trees/plants) Maybe was only foliar fed?

That's my guesses...and I'm sticking to 'em, lol.

Perhaps photoshopped? Will have to look again...
    edit: nope...doesn't look photoshopped.

Somebody with a lot of time, knowledge, energy and talent grew those.....and intended to grow them that way. Believe me they don't look like that because the grower "skimped' here and there..;;;bet on it. .People who are "cheap" with money also tend to be cheap with other things as well.....they are folks who want something for (almost) nothing. And when you go the "cheap" route ......and you pretty much get what you pay for.
