I need recommendations for my next move...
Hello,
I'm one week and change into flowering, and out of my nine Northern light beauties, 7 are male. =(
I massacred them today, sparing the best male. I already have some clones going, about a week in.
I'm thinking of breeding the two females I have with the male to get some seeds to start up a new crop. What do you guys suggest, that I continue to flower these plants, and wait for my clones, or continue flowering the male and getting seeds for another crop?hiroshi_87 Reviewed by hiroshi_87 on . If you only bought 10 NL seeds, and germinated all of them at the same time, then I'm guessing you are out of seeds now! For that reason alone, I'd think about selectively breeding some branches on your female for more seeds. Or, you could just let your fan carry the pollen around your growroom and pollinate the female. You'll still get some smokable product in the end, but the weight will consist much more of seeds. But again, if they're quality genetics, this isn't a terrible thing because one well-pollinated indoor plant can produce hundreds of seeds of the exact same quality. I had a 4 NLxHaze crosses that I let one NL/Haze male pollinate, and now I've got more seeds of that strain than I know what to do with.
Just a thought.

if you have clones already for the next time i would let a plant or a couple of branches from both get seeded. i didnt have the best luck only doing a branch but it was because i killed the pollen too early. if you seeded both, you would find out which you liked better. if you only did one you might kick yourself for not doing the other. in the end if i were you(me) i would try to pollinate a branch of each, you will already know what the females are like. lol, if that makes sence.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice.
I'm thinking of just letting the remaining male have his way with the two females and producing as many seeds as possible with my first harvest. That way, I can pick and choose the best specimens from the seedlings that I will eventually get. Genetic diversity is important, and yeah, this strain has some good genetics, I don't wanna fuck it up by cloning the same females.
The first harvest won't be a complete loss... I'll still get some smokables, right? =) That should tide me over for a little while. Patience... must... be... patient...

My first grow was a NL strain. I also decided to let the male do its thing until I had to chop it because it got to the point where I almost needed to wear a mask when I opened the cabinet door because of all of the pollen. I ended up getting enough seeds to last me a couple years, lol. But that was what I wanted, a good supply so I didn't have to go across the border to get new seeds. If you are in a cabinet don't forget to scrub it down after the harvest.
I did have to give up some weight but the smoke quality was still good.
I'm now just started flowering of my second grow attempt using my "homegrown" seeds and the plants look just as good as the parents. I'm looking forward to just growing the ladies and seeing how that turns out.
Just another step in the learning process.

Yeah, I hear you man. I never fully appreciated the education and dedication it takes to grow. Now, I know.
I'm growing in a large closet, so I'll be able to clean it relatively easily.
I'm thinking of taking some more cuttings from the females, and letting the main colas get pollinated. Will that be acceptable?

Ahh, I think I confused you with the way I wrote that. My head isn't completely in order today, I;ve only slept 6 hours over the past 72. What I meant was, that I'm going to cut more clones off the females that I have, and pollinate their main colas.

Ah, no worries bud! I was pretty lit when I read/responded to that post, so I very well could have mistook what you were trying to say! :stoned:
Regardless, yes, that would be a very good idea. Any time I find a strain that I really enjoy, the first thing I do is breed it for seeds. I've spent some ridiculous amounts of money on seeds before, and that's not something I'm all that willing to do regularly...
Be good, and be safe!
