i just opened the bag (it's from last year) and it appears to be growing mold. do i have to throw it out, or can i keep it and use the non-moldy soil?

You're talking about the soil being moldy, or some bud? If it's bud, throw it out before you accidentally smoke it and kill yourself.

As for moldy soil -- dude, soil is cheap. It *might* be technically possible to flush it well enough and with the proper concoction to kill the mold (H202 works pretty well for this), but I don't know if I'd trust the soil after it's been through that. Just use fresh and don't worry.

Can you nuke moldy weed to kill the spores? Or maybe use some acohol to kill it?

Nuking just sounds like it would fry the mold, and probably the remaining THC...making the remaining nugget too crispy and gross to smoke. Alcohol would just add more moisture, and could possibly cause a chemical reaction that makes the smokers skull suddenly implode. (Just a stoned hypothesis.)

Look, as much as it would suck to trash your stash...especially if it's all you have...it's probably better than the nasty maladies that you could face after ingesting it. Or, you might experience no side-effects at all.
