In short, yes. I have had smaller plants that didn't smell so much, but some did.

Ive had some realllly skunky plants (they were babies and most turned out to be males so they got the axe) and my first plant ever didnt really smell much during veg, but she's startin to smell reaaaal pretty now that we're headed into flower.

As a general rule the odor from the vegging plants isn't as strong as from flowering ones, and a lot of what determines odor is strain dependent. Still, if you need stealth...

You are going to need to vent your grow-op - suck in fresh air, blow out old air - so it's very easy to incorporate a carbon/kitty litter filter into your exhaust system. There's a sticky with real good directions for building a DIY filter somewhere here in the Grow section. I've made a couple filters from those instructions. It's pretty simple and inexpensive to do.

    Here's a link for filter: http://boards.cannabis.com/grow-faqs/99371-diy-how-carbon-filter.html

    Good luck!

my plant gives the house a nice vegetative smell (not weed smell, just a planty smell)

unfortunately, its room is becoming superoxygenated...gotta get more co2 in there.

You should hope that they do stink during veg! Imagine the stone! Now get to carbon scrubbin.
