to FIM or not to FIM

well i was wondering whether, if i didnt FIM and managed to produce a single kola bud that weighed 1oz (hypothetically) would i have produced more bud if i would have FIMed and 6-8 new branches were to grow would those branches produce more than the single kola ?

    Yes. But a QUALIFIED yes.
But you are adding on a mimimum of 3 weeks to the time it takes to do this, and you will need more light as well, because fewer plants will fit under your lamp's footprint if you prune them into wider tops. And you'll need a larget pot.
And each of the resultant bud sites will not produce the same bud mass as your unpruned single cola plant would have.

you could encourage multiple top cola's just by LST'ing and not lose the down time. I don't FIM because of recovery time. I'm not an expert but I have damaged many plants and any time I have cut anything, the plant took about 2-3 days to resume its previous vigor.
Hence my recommendation for LST'ing, simply tip the plant and let the hormones do the rest. No matter which technique you use, your manipulating the growth hormones.

QFT. I don't usually FIM for this reason. The only reason I FIM is if I need a LOT of clones FAST.

The closest I've been to FIM was a mother I revegged for clones of an awe inspiring indica.
I just put it back into flower(to smoke it and kill it), and I'm realizing why I wouldn't FIM.
I let her veg for about 1-1/2 mo's and now I have this huge clusterf@ck of budsites(that grew from the larger nug I left). I'm sure I'll run into trouble now keeping the buds apart enough for good airflow.
I should have vegged her another 6-8 weeks and did some serious pruning and LST'ing to separate the sites, but I needed her gone from my veg room(room for all those clones). I'll make a new mommy now. And LST exclusive.
