Depends on how high you're trying to get. If you want to get blasted then hold the smoke in for a while. If you're just trying to get slightly stoned, hold for like 3-5 seconds.

If that was the case, then don't you think people could conserve their weed a whole lot more?

I usually try to hold my hits for a while. I don't always do that though.

Supposedly all the THC is absorbed within the first few seconds, but I've found holding a hit in 15-30 seconds increases the buzz quality, after allowing yourself to catch your breath again.
I see a red door and I want it painted black / No colors anymore I want them to turn black / I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes / I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

dude,,,,,most thc is absorbed immediately....thats why you still get baked even if you blow it out immediately....but holding it in usually induces coughing, if you took a decent hit. thats probably why holding it in really makes you higher sometiems.

The bulk of it is absorbed very quickly. If you have very little, hold it in as long as you can, but a few seconds will do it.

    just never let it out
'You don't need to breathe air anymore, because you have weed, one needs not much more than this, air is overrated anyway!'
don't let these common myths fool you, quality is air, as air is to quality

Supposedly most of the THC is absorbed into your bloodstream after the first five seconds. Any extra 'high' from holding it in your lungs longer than that is more than likely a mixture of placebo and oxygen deprivation.
