    MH and HPS best brand

With all the choices of bulbs out there, when it comes time to replace them which bulbs are the best for the money. I have a
400 Watt HPS/MH interchangeable ballast. Right now I am using the ones provided with the kit I bought and they seem to be fine. They did their job for the first hydro cycle. I am not sure how long they last Before they start losing their effectiveness does anyone know?

    Peace

Hortilux is a good brand. Look for something that has 5700K wavelength for veg and 2200K for bud.

    You like 5700K not 6500K?

Hortilux and Sunmaster are two great brands for lights. If you have the ability to run the lights together you will see that the bulbs that come with the light system will be not as bright (as it appears to us) as the hortilux or sunmaster bulbs will be. Currently i am running a 400mh Sunmaster for veg and 1k HPS Hortilux and 600wHPS Sunmaster for a total of 1600w HPS for flower. The difference between them is very noticable. I think one has the full spectrum where the other doesnt. The lights do make a huge difference.

no worries, they both are in the 'blue' spectrum, won't make a difference ... after my $80 EYE Hortilux started getting old, I replaced it with an $8 HPS, 400 Watt HPS ... I see no difference in growth, etc., and don't think the plant suspects a thing

Yep, assuming that you like to give your plant a chance at peak chlorophyll activity, that's the way you go. I know there are other important factors, but until I see some kind of graph or chart showing those factors, and something showing me how they are more important, I'll stick with determining my color temperature by peak chlorophyll activity. Of course if possible, you want to mix a little red in with your blue.

Look at the difference between the 6500 color and the 5700 on this chart. I have seen many others that indicate the same thing.

Nice snag! Too bad they don't have 600W for my system. The only significant difference I saw was that the Eye supposedly lasts 6000 hours longer, but that certainly doesn't make up for the price difference. That is now one of my bookmarks.
