"We need to talk"
What person (especially a stoner) could possibly enjoy hearing those words?
Background: I'm 20 years old. My parents found out that I was smoking cannabis when I was 16, and they took it so seriously that I quit for good (well, 2 years...until I learned some of the facts about the plant, and was old enough to do what I wanted). I moved out of their house around the time I turned 19, and not long after my 20th birthday they talked me into moving back home.
So for about 2 years ago I started smoking bud again occasionally with friends. I quit smoking weed as a "solution" to my problems earlier this year (had a lot of them going on, I'll spare you the details) but I decided that the problem really had nothing to do with weed. I started smoking heavily about 2 or 3 months ago, and I've gotten really careless because I'm at the point where I don't worry about what anyone thinks. My parents have the view of "it's bad because it's illegal, and it can keep you from getting a job". That's all. They have friends that smoke, and they've done it before (my dad did it alot..still does sometimes...my mom tried it once and didn't get high).
Anyway. For the past few months I'd been really thinking of telling them that I smoke, but I didn't know how to bring it up. The more I thought about it, I decided it'd probably be best to keep it quiet from them, but not lie if confronted. Well, they used my car to take an out of town trip this weekend, and when they got back they told me that my dad found a seed in my car.
My first thought was "why the fuck did he say something? He smokes too...", but I didn't even mention that. They asked where it came from and I just said "it could've came from a joint, blunt, pipe, or bag. I'm not sure that it was even my seed". Of course they were taken back at how honest I was, but I didn't see a point in lying about it.
Eventually they asked the question of "how often do you do it?" and I lied. I told them that I only smoke with friends, and that I don't buy it very often at all. The reason I lied about this is because we're all chipping in to get the bills paid around here, and I don't want them to feel resentment because I'm spending 15-20 dollars a week on weed. Also, they don't even know about the money that I use to buy my weed usually, because I don't want any questions.
So after talking about it, and showing them how knowledgeable I am about cannabis (thanks to this website for a lot of that), they just gave me a long lecture about getting caught by the cops and stuff.
How did some of you other people explain to your parents (or someone else that you wouldn't normally want to know about it) that you smoke? I'm interested in hearing your stories.Rapidfire187 Reviewed by Rapidfire187 on . "We need to talk" What person (especially a stoner) could possibly enjoy hearing those words? Oh yea, Storm Crow's posts have taught me a lot. As a matter of fact, I was reading one of her links that dispelled marijuana myths about an hour before I had that talk with my folks, and I used some of the information that I found to combat some of their stuff ("It causes you to lose motivation" mainly).
I talked with my mom privately a little while ago before I left for work, and she told me she wasn't really upset about it. She doesn't want it in her house or in the car while she's driving obviously. She actually said that she thought it was stupid of my dad to bring it up and "try to get me in trouble" when he does it sometimes, she thinks that he's pissed because she didn't get more upset than she did.
Basically I convinced them that I'm a responsible user, and that I think it's actually safer than drinking (something they're perfectly fine with me doing). I explained to them that I've done research on all sorts of topics, and know how to keep myself out of trouble, but that if I slipped up and got caught by the police that I would take full responsibility for it. I also explained how I use it as a way to reward myself sometimes, and that's how I stay motivated to get things done despite the fact that it'd be sooooooooo easy to just sit on my ass and eat chips all day lmao.

"We need to talk"
get a big sign that says" mom, dad, i use drugs". not really but i did have a poster of that when i was in high school.
i just told them when i made a comment one day about something in a health foodstore that smelled like pot and my mom asked how i new that. cant say she was happy about it but i said that at least its not crack. but i also support my own family and work 50-60 hours aweek and dont let it interefer with whats imporant. so even tho i smoke a little grass im a responsible adult.
the best thing to do is just show them you are a responsible person then let them know

"We need to talk"
My mom caught me a few times back in high school but stuff was so messed back then that she just kinda accepted it as a phase. after i moved back home after ditching my cheating ex fiancee i directly approached my mother (my step father smokes pot, but he's a douche so we wont get into him) and said "Mom, while im living under your roof i want you to know that i still smoke pot. I don't do it for the same reasons i did back in highschool, nor do i do it with the same frequency or goal". She appreciated my honesty, told me she didnt like it but there wasnt much she could do, nor did she feel she could critisize me on it since she was married to a jack ass that smokes as well.
