Just finished first indica cycle...
Indica dominant plants do generally stretch less than their sativa relatives, but the amount of stretch is still variable among them. I'd say yes, it IS pretty typical that you didn't see a signifcant stretch compared to sativas you'd experinced previously.
Sure, go ahead and increase veg time on the next indica crop, and focus on creating a continuous, thick canopy, which is the way to squeeze maximum yield out of an indica.
