    This is weird!

The male plant, which sprouted out of the soil a good two days before the female plant is now a fraction of the height of the female since inducing flowering a few weeks ago.

Small cabinet, same lighting & watering schedule, same nutes ... I just measured them: the female's 22" tall while the male is about 12.5" tall.

If that trend keeps up, the female will be twice the size of the the male, which means only the bottom branches are likely be pollinated, the top branches and cola are a good 10" higher than the male's cola, and with the light fixture being 1/2" from the top of the tallest plant, the male isn't getting as much light and isn't stretching; I don't get it!

are you tryin to seed all your buds? you'll get a shit ton of seeds just from the bottom, but you cant keep the male in there the pollin will pop and the airflow will move it everywhere!!

Nothing to worry about, it's just the genetics of the individual plant. Males generally have an unsurpassed vigor during vegetative growth, and can sometimes grow so tall-so fast, that they leave other plants in the dark (literally). This is unfortunate most of the time, as most folks are hoping that these monster growers turn out to be females. You just happen to have either a very vigorous female, or a less vigorous male.

As for pollination, you could separate the male from the female, (assuming that this is an indoor grow) collect the pollen as it drops, and selectively pollinate all buds as needed. (The tip of a paintbrush works very well for this.) If this is an outdoor grow, I'm sure there are still ways to collect pollen using transparent plastic, Saran wrap, etc.

Due to lack of space both plants share the same pot. My first instinct was to keep an eye on both and pull out the male should there be one, but...seeing that seeds are pretty pricey I'm tempted to let nature take its course.

The male looks Sativa dominant while the female looks Indica dominant (fatter leaves)...same packet of KC-36 seeds, I'd been told of the "questionable genetics" from KC Brains, but unfortunately that's all I can afford.

I could turn the fan off when the male flowers begin changing color, this would allow the pollen to go downward and (hopefully) only pollinate the bottom branches, leaving more potent bud from the cola and upper branches.

Now I am trying to get an offshoot from my girl to take root, clone my girl for unpollinated bud. I'm using smokinrav's simple water cloning method...wish me luck!

Actually, since I know shorty's a male I'll make no bones about stressing it; I'll top it, prune it, keep the pollen sacks to a minimum and cut the fan.

    Best of luck, indeed!

I guess you could construct a small chicken-wire fence around the male and tightly wrap it with Saran wrap, or something along those lines. That would probably keep most of the female from becoming pollinated, but it might get a little time consuming! Either way, you'll probably want to keep your fan on for the rest of the grow. Good air circulation will help prevent mold & pests from infesting your buds.

Sounds like a cool little project to undertake while stoned... :stoned:
