trail is very very easy to follow
what seems to work out best
is every night we have a designated camp spot
everyone meets there at there own pace
two five gallon paint buckets with lids from home depot cost like 5.00 each
or just mail one drop and carry the rest
finding out what foods work for you is not easy
at home i eat a lot but on trail i dont.
the hard part of planning would be the final section
from muir trail ranch to whitney
about 100 miles worth of food is a lil heavy
if we do finish the hike
i will treat my partners to
beers and burgers and whitney portal grill

It would be cool if we could get food dropped in by airplane for the last part...not really a whole bunch of options..I read where they can bring your drop by horseback at a designated spot..$400..damn, thats alot..

here is a great quote
Lyell canyon (between Tuolumne Meadows and Donahue Pass) has an especially bad bear problem. Avoid camping in this 11-mile section of the trail if you want to keep your food.

hahahah, that's awesome! Maybe we should set up traps to scare off the bears around our camps :P

bear hangs man. they will keep your food safe. you just can't keep any food in your tent in bear country. plus if i am not mistaken the bears in the area WE WILL :] be hiking only have black bears which arent anywhere near as dangerous or scary as grizzly bears.

lyell canyon is beautiful
flat the whole way
lots of swimming holes
looks like a post card
awesome campspot at the end of lyell canyon just before donahue pass
its easy to carry 7 days worth of food in the bear cannister
7 days at 15 miles a day=105 miles
we can starve a lil bit..it'll make the burgers taste that much better

I wanted to do the whole JMT this last summer but I was only able to do Mt. Whitney with my mom. It was a great hike, not too much mountaineering involved sadly. I hope all goes well!
ps. Use some bear bags for your pot!
