Trail Journals 2007 : Backpacking and Hiking Journals

you can read journals from other hikers who finished the trail
gives you a good idea on what you are getting into

the trail is 222 miles from yosemite to mt.whitney
i was thinking of driving to whitney area and parking the car
then either taking another car up to yosemite or take the bus

I was talking about the John Muir Trail to like 6 people at work today
I am definitely a 100% commited to this man, I've been wanting to do serious hikes like that forever.

I am down for the practice one, we could probably tackle that one right after new years!

if you can start hiking by 6am at 2mph by 12pm youd have 12 miles
done and can hike more or have time to explore the area (climb peaks)
And yea man, climbing peaks is the ultimate
I say we climb the highest peak we have in sight
(thats in the way, of course)

I thought this was a good overview..the supply and logistics for this hike are pretty intense..I didnt include that in this copy and paste, cause I didnt want to do to much of that..yeah, yeah, I am stoned and I got more to smoke..strawberry cough..so many weed names...hey owl, smokin homegrown the whole way...I am bringing an OZ for sure.

The John Muir Trail passes through what many backpackers say is the finest mountain scenery in the United States. This is a land of 13,000-foot and 14,000-foot peaks, of lakes in the thousands, and of canyons and granite cliffs. It's also a land blessed with the mildest, sunniest climate of any major mountain range in the world.
The John Muir Trail is 211 miles long and runs (mostly in conjunction with the PCT) from Yosemite Valley to Mt Whitney, in California.

Because the John Muir Trail (JMT) trail ends (assuming you're doing a north to south thru-hike) at the top of the highest point in the lower 48, even after "completing" the trail you still have to hike another 11 miles and 6000 ft. down to Whitney Portal, the southern trail head.

Permits may be reserved by mail or telephone up to 24 weeks (to the day) or as late as 2 days (if any are left) before the date of your departure. The fee for reserving a permit is US$3 for each person listed on the permit, checks and credit cards are accepted. The maximum size of your group is 15, for hiking on the trail.
