For BEST budding, you should consider a HPS light.
As for width, go ahead and make it as wide as you like, and get additional 4' fixtures to just PACK the box with light. It's a pretty simple way to build a vegging box, and runs fairly cool.

I've had success with my first half-assed grow attempt before researching anything vital and have 2 females. (YAY!) I'm looking to build a growbox about 4.5' long by 4' high. I don't know how wide I can make it before I start losing reflective light from the sides. ...and, do I need to swich out my tubes for something else for budding? Rating: 5
