When is the best time to start next crop
Greetings fellow growers,
I am looking for an experianced person to give a little advice here.
To start with my current crop is in week 3 of vegitive growth under 24/7 600w MH and doing beutifully, In the next week to week and a half I will be going to 12/12 under 600w HPS to start the flowering cycle.
My question is when should I start the next crop to keep harvest times as close as possiable to each other. I only have the one light that is a digital ballast that takes both MH and HPS bulbs?
What I am thinking of doing is in week 3 or 4 of flowering is to start germinating the next crop and put them under the HPS at 12/12 and let them grow untill harvest of the first crop, Then after harvest go to 24/7 under the MH bulb for 2 to 3 weeks, then go back to 12/12 under the HPS. This in therory looks like it would work due to you would be changing the light just as the seasons change in nature. Does anyone do or have tried this therory?
Will this work or am I risking a second crop of hemi's, plus what would be the best week to germinate if I can do this?Jerry Garcia 2007 Reviewed by Jerry Garcia 2007 on . It sounds to me like your best bet is to grab a tray light Or some fluros somwhere and try and set up an inexpensive smaller room.
If you start those seeds under the HPS they are gonna stretch plus not reach their potential.
just my 2 cents. Im not to experienced but I do know that seeds under HPS espically at 12/12 is far from ideal and I would think it will take so long for those seedling to get strong.
I'm sure what you want to do is totaly possible I just don't think its gonna be worth the hassle.
lets see what some other katzz say...

The other katz agree with KD.
Easier by far to start seeds under the same type of 24" T5 fixture that he runs, in a smaller space, with good blue light, and keep them on 24/0 until they are ready to flower and the room is open.
KD when are you going to let me at that pizza? It looks so good...

Thanks,
I guess I will have to invest in a smaller veg box.
Thank you again.

why from seed? Can you not take clippings from what you have and start the perpetual harvesting?
Pick up a rubbermaid deck box ($100) and some t5's. works like a charm for me. (remember the vetilation though so no mildew starts.)

Why from seed?
Well, first I have never cloned before. Second, this is my first crop and it is w/w, I am not sure if this is the strain I want to continue with, I do plan on selective pollination on a coulple of small buds though for future use. I do have some THC bomb seeds from a friend that I want to try also.
All in all there are so many options I have no idea what the f*ck I am going to do for my next crop.

Selective pollination.....and you cant' clone?
Might be a perfect opportunity to learn how to clone.
It is actually easy.
Get some rockwool cubes, soak them in PH adjusted water 6.0 for 24hrs.
Have some rooting hormone and a brand new razor.
Take a 5-6 inch shoot with at least one set of internodes and slice it off the branch at a 45degree angle.
Make a few little rough slits in the very bottom of the clipping.
Dip it in rooting hormone (Put some in the cap, don't dip the clipping in the container.)
Insert the clipping firmly into the cube.
Put under a dome of some sort, propogation dome, 2L pop bottle cut in half etc.
Mist the dome twice a day for the first 5 days, then gradually start removing trhe dome more and more.
18/6
7-10 days transplant.
(Or read the post in Stinkyattics signature, or the sticky in Basic Growing)
See, cloning shortens time required by at least three weeks. This can make a real difference in perpetual harvesting.
If your WW flowers in 6 weeks, and you want to veg for 4 weeks, then life cycle is 10 weeks.
Therefore if you want to be inserting veged clones when you are removing flowered plants, you should be clipping next batch of clones when the moms are going into flower.
Have fun. There really is no right way...whatever works for you.

Ok you convinced me to at least try it.
I will have to wait and see if this crop has a mom that sticks out as a great mother. The reason I was worried was 1) never tried it. 2) I did not want to put all my eggs in one basket and screw up, then start compleatly over. 3) with so many different strains available I don't want to limit myself to one until I find the out which strain I will fall in love with.

If you do get that other little room going on. You can learn how to clone as well and start some seeds. Then your covered both ways right...
I always try and cover myself both ways when it comes to the Ganga....
Cuz you never know when somthing wrong will happen. ie
Just yesterday I put my clones out in the sun under a window. It was nice and warm and I know they love O natural sun if they can get some. So working away Blahh Blahh Blahh,,,
Ohh hi Kittyy... Is that a leaf in your mouth? Ohh shittzzz... Look over at the window there is my two cats haveing a hay day with my clones... I didn't throw away the mother yet just incase somthign went wrong with these clones. and it payed of this time,, didn't want to lose these genitics...
good luck

Knowing how to clone is invaluable. I am still learning the finer points, however on my third attempt I rooted 50 of 50.
Knowing how to clone not only makes time between cycles shorter but guarantees longevity. See, if you screw up a crop and have to start from seed again, deal with germinating, transplanting, rooting all that time to get one female, if you have a clone you can always revert back and grow that clone to a mother to get 5 clones to get them to mother and clip 50 clones from the 5. So having said that, in the same time that you can germinate a seed and have it ready for flower, you can have 50 guaranteed females.
Only my opinion, I am sure that others may differ.
As long as you have fun. I agree, try different strains rather than limit to just one....if you have the time and patience.
