No I don't think he was just winding me up, he seemed really sincere. I'm just going to tell him I'm not into that sort of thing and don't think it'll work out between us. I totally respect his right to enjoy whatever he wants sexually with a consenting partner, and don't necessarily think he's a "freak". He's just too freaky for me.
