does anybody know about those fm transmitters for your ipod in your car?

ive got a question about those exspensive fm transmitters( plug into your car lighter) vs those cassette player things with a wire that plugs into an ipod or cd player ( what would those be called by the way ? ). is it any better having the fm transmitter? would the sound be any better? is it worth the extra moiney to have it charge ur ipod ? or does the cassette player thing work equally good? would the cassette thing save your car battery life ?

Yeah, tape adapters are better if your car doesn't spit them out. That's why I have a fm transmitter in the first place.

I use one to play the DVD audio through the car speakers

converts the audio to a radio signal.. You tune into the preselected radio station, most of the time its in the lower end of the dial like 88.3 or 89.1 and the audio plays through the car speakers.

couple different types, digital and ones that plug into the hard line for the antenna

i know its kind of a broad answer

    HERES the wikipedia answer.
"This article is concerned with low powered transmitters used in some countries for interfacing personal audio devices "FM transmitter" can also refer to high powered broadcast equipment used by pirate radio and licenced broadcast stations

An FM transmitter is a portable device that plugs into the headphone jack or proprietary output port of a portable audio or video device, such as an iPod (or other types of MP3 players), CD players, and satellite radio systems. The sound is then broadcast through the transmitter, and plays through an FM frequency. Purposes for an FM transmitter include playing music from a device through a car stereo, or any radio without an audio input jack.

The FM-transmitter plugs into the audio output of audio devices and converts the audio output into an FM radio signal, which can then be picked up by appliances such as car or portable radios. Most devices on the market typically have a short range of up to 30 feet (9 metres) with any average radio (up to about 75 feet (23 metres) with a very good radio under perfect conditions) and can broadcast on any FM frequency from 76.0 to 108.0 MHz (or 87.9 to 107.9 in the US). Some lower-cost transmitters are hard-wired to the 87.7-91.9 MHz band allocated to educational broadcasts in the United States, or a certain other smaller range of frequencies.

FM transmitters are usually battery driven, but some use the cigarette lighter socket in cars, or draw their power from the device itself. They are typically used with portable audio devices such as MP3 or CD players, but are also used to broadcast other outputs (such as that from a computer sound card) throughout a home or other building."

If you have an iPod, get the iTrip FM transmitter. The new generation iTrip will plug directly into the bottom of your ipod. It will give you the best signal and the best quality music with the most freedom. I have used all the different FM transmitter products, and iTrip is hands-down the best. It runs directly off the power from the ipod.. the new one is $30, its digital, and it broadcasts across all FM stations from 87.9-107.9 including even wavelengths.

My buddy has an FM transmitter and it works great. We use it at work all of the time. They are not cheap though and are touchy. It has to be sitting in just the right spot to get a clean signal, or you get radio interference, so bouncing around in a car, to me, would be frustrating. The one he has has to sit motionless.

I'm sure the more expensive ones are good though, but I mean they are really pricey. The cheapest ones around here are like $50, for the lower end ones.

If you want to spend the extra buck, they are worth it.

fm transmitters suck in my experience. if you have a tape deck i would defiantly go with the tape adapter.
