First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?

    Bumpin dat shit.

After another round of tie downs last night I've got some spots on the plant that look randomly burned. CAN'T be from being too close to the lamp.....just like one big island of dark and crispy on an otherwise healthy leaf.

    Any thought?

Your plants are looking good! LST is the way to go, IMO. You'll get those lower/side branches popping out and growing up towards the light now.

I would really try to get a vent. system up and running. Even if it's just a small comp. fan exhausting out the top with a passive intake on the bottom, that is so much better than nothing! Do you know what the temps are in the cab? I think CFLs are underestimated when it comes to how much heat they can put off in a small space.

Got any close up pics of the burn? Could be pH issues, calcium def... anything really.

Looks good!! I'm setting up a similar grow within the week or so... I would definately add more light when it comes down to flowering them though, the more light the better CFL's should be about 2'' away from the plants, but I'm not sure with your ventilation problem. Try to get that figured out, and update; I will be tuning into this grow !

gotta say looks like you've got a decent handle on this. Im in the middle of my first grow as well, im using CFLs but my grow space is abit more contained so i only have room for one more plant (growing in a rubbermaid set up) Id veg your girls for a bit longer as it will pay off even more with the lst'ing. But your plants look like a indica dominant plant with some sativa in it. Meaning those bitches have the potential to STRETCH LIKE HELL once you start'em on the 12/12 light cycle. Mines been in 12/12 for a bit over a week and i almost shit myself when i opened up the box after a its first 5 days on 12/12 (mines mainly sativa and they tend to grow taller) . Im talking like...it probably grew a total of 2 feet or so in a 5 day period (this is adding up the length of all the branches growing out towards the light). In the off chance your curious ive been LST'ing myself here are the two most recent pictures of my girl getting tied down.

In regaurds to your crispyness, when was the last time you flushed your girls? i ask because i seem to notice that a common problem among us newbs is not flushing.

also i wanna second the notion to get some kinda ventilation in that room, its so important for the plants health.

Hey everyone thanks for the info...one at a time now.

Bron - thanks for the comps...i agree that CFL's are prone to more heat than people seem to think, it maintans a high 80's...87...my digi thermometer broke, just ordered a new one.

Just found that this fan I had in there had heating coils in it and was SUPER fucking conducting the heat. DER on my behalf.

Gundari...thanks for lettin' me know what kind of space issues I might be facing. I have no idea how many of these plants are gonna be flowered as I still don't know the sex. I am SEMI-hoping that at least ONE is a male. As I don't know if I have the room to flower 4 plants. Again...that's SEMI-hoping. As far as flushing...I've not yet soil flushed as I was under the impression this was only a last ditch soil problem fix.

What makes you think the plant is indica dominant? Just curious as I was simply going from leaf shape...and thought it looked sativa.

Your plant looks phenomenal by the way.

    I'd love some more info.

Post some pics manana...including of the burn. Dont know what the hell it is.

Thanks again, folks. Peace. Somehow it feels nice to be a noob at something again. Thanks again.

Smoke em if ya got em. And I DO!

Na you should flush on a fairly regular basis, as you fert your soil fills up with toxic salts. The salts swing the ph of your soil towards an extreme where your plant cant take up nutes very well and the salt crystals themselves stop your plant from sucking up nutes as effciently. (During veg i always tried to do it once every 2 weeks, thats overkill in my opinion but it was always so cool to see the insane growthspurts that would occur after i did it).

I say your plant is indica domninant because of how fat your leaves are, mines sativa dominant (some indy in it), just take a look at my leaves then yours, you'll see that yours are much broader/fatter looking. Yours were already fairly bushy without the LSTing, another indica trait.

And dont worry, odds are with 4 bag seed plants ATLEAST one should be male, i mean its a 50/50 chance technically for us new guys, if the growing gods smile on you and give you 4 fems just cull the weaker one(s). Theres ALWAYS a runt of the group.

Ty for the kind words on my plant, Yours are lookin nice and pretty too. (Im jealous you've got some indica dominant bagseed, bagseed tends to sway more towards sativa dominant. Well atleast according to the members of this forum it does).

    Seriously,

Such a comprehensive collection of wonderful information. Okay, now regarding the soil flushing. The soil I'm using is FOX FARM organic compund which already have nutes mixed into it.

If I soil flush aren't I going to just flush out any of the remaining nutrients. The chick at the growshop said that this soil would get me through veg with no feeding....OR should I do a soil flush and simply starting feeding the plants regularly.

For those interested here is a photo of the "burn" on the leaf which is spreading. Also, some of the leaves have lost their green.

After coming this far, I dont wanna fuck this up. YEAH, it's Project: Test Crop, but that don't change how much I actually care about these plants.....and my potential future of killing them and smoking them

    BOOOSH!!!

Yea the flush will get rid of all the nutes, but ive also heard that foxfarms tends to get salty alot faster then most other soils. I know i personally like to use a light soil that doesnt have any ferts in it at all just because i dont like pre ferted soils messing with my feeding regimine.
If you wanna do a quick test water your plant till the point of run off, what color is the water? is it kinda a clear brown / yellow or is it just plain clear? If its tinted brown or yellow you need a flush, that tint is toxic salt build up.

As for your problem...im not really all that good at diagnosing, but your leaves look alot like my leaves did when i had PH lock out (the "burn" looks like ph spotting too, to me atleast). Do a Test on your run off water (assuming its not all dark and nasty like previously mentioned) you want it to be some where in the area of 6.5.

Here's a shot of what my leaves looked like during the ph lock out (they were also being underfed and overwatered too...god ive done so many horrible things to this plant).

Gundari...you've been amazingly helpful, brotha. Appreciated.

I did a test and the water came out crystal clear. I'm off to my grow shop to grab a ph tester....think you might be onto something about

NOW about my soil...the reason I got foxfarm was that I didn't want to have to get into feeding my ladies.....NOW i regret that decision. Pretty much the only aspect of this that I have almost NO comprehension of is when/how/what to feed my plants.

I'm a learn by reading and not experience kinda guy and it seems like everyone has conflicting methods of fert.....any ideas where i can just get some straightfoward info. I mean, even reading CANNABIS GROW BIBLE didn't really help. I know it sounds like hand holding...but I like to be able to read "BUY (namebrand fertilizer) AND USE IT (amount of times per month)...or something like that.

Thanks again for the tips. MAN...that plant has come a LONG way, brother.

Hah yes, i know lillys done quite a bit of growing. She makes me proud.

Either way im happy to be helpful, i have alot of respect for the mods / people on these boards who go out of their way to help people so i try to do the same. Makes me feel like im giving something back, plus if i can help someone else learn from my mistakes so they dont have to make them thats a good thing.

Heres what i do for feeding, its a generally simple practice and ive only burnt my plant once (and it was very very very minor). For vegging i use Miracle Grow (forget the name but it comes in a little yellow bottle, looks alot like a mini laundry detergent bottle) but anything decently high in nitrogen and potassium will work. Read the instructions on the box then cut the amount per gallon / litre they give in half (or if you wanna be extra safe, which i suggest you do your first feed since all strains behave differently cut it by 75%). I normally put myself on a regimine that starts after the last flush, i give my plant a good flush then the last bit of water i flush her with is a 25% nute solution so she's got something to eat. A little bit of Hydrogen Peroxide helps to get some air to your poor drowned roots is you want to put some of that in with the nute solution. leave her alone for 5 days or so (she'll want to get nice and dry after that flush) then i water her twice, feed with a 50% solution and just use plain water till the next flush (repeat).

So in your situation id just start feeding maybe once every two weeks with a 25 to 50% solution and see how your plant handles it, if they're lovin it start feeding a bit more often but the key is to move up very slowly as it alot easier (and less stressful) to just add a little more fert then it is to burn the plant and have to flush out your soil all over again.

When you get into flowering do basically the same put replace the miracle grow with a fert thats lower in N, higher in P, and about the same in K. I use this stuff i found at lowes thats made for orchids, its got something along the lines of 11-35-15, along with all the micronutes the plant needs and its been doin great for me so far. Oh also get some molasses and feed that to the plant as well (about a tbsp per gallon) when you start flowering she'll thank you for the extra sugar / carbs by growing much denser buds.

Basically feeding is kinda a learn as you go thing, everyone develops their own methods and such. The key in my opinion is to start with baby steps and work your way up, because like i said earlier, hell of alot easier to put more in then it is to take stuff out.
