Plants won't stop flowering
If I would have cut mine back to 8 inches I would have had all stem. They got a little stretched in the beginning. As long as I have the room I think that I am giving them a better chance if I leave at least half the plant, with 10 or 15 healthy leaves and 10 or 15 popcorn buds. The new growth always comes out of the buds first.

If I get a nice bushy plant maybe sometime I'll try cutting down to 8". I think it's mostly just how much foliage and buddage you leave on, not how many inches worth of stem is left.
