I see where the "problem" is, but I don't necessarily view it as a problem. It's really not that big of a deal, really. It's only when it's taken over the top.

Who cares honestly? Let the kid have fun. If he wants the costume, let him have it. If you're thinking that a black kid in some kind of primate costume is bad, then you're really over analyzing.

And I really don't like the way that it's going right now. People are becoming too critical about things like that. It's something innocent and people are reading things into it that aren't there. And if that's the reason that you're shocked by it, then don't be. Don't even worry about it because you yourself can obviously see beyond it. You're worried about the people that might view it in an ignorant manner, well, if they're gonna be that naive and, well, just plain fucking stupid, then let them. You can't help it, but don't add fuel to the fire by worrying about it. Please.

My point is, if it's not meant to encourage stereotypes or be offensive (meaning it's just innocence), then let it be. Even if you see what *could* happen, then you're making it worse than it is. I don't mean to be offensive to you, but please see what I'm trying to say. I'd just like to see people not view things so serious. Lighten up, forget the very subtle connotations, and live like we're all equal (which is how it should be).

yea there are some crazy and strange costumes out these days
like this kid that was dressed up as a garbage truck
and that lady walking around town with a real snake on her neck

wednesday morning I woke up late for work
then I remembered about that costume contest they were having there

I therefore threw some bed sheets on my head, cut some eye holes, and headed to work
making my ass drive with the costume on, because you can only do that on halloween

I am not ashamed to say I did not win the costume contest
but some people were really wondering who I was for a while

I see your point, and in an ideal world, I would be able to agree with you wholeheartedly. But I live in Ohio.

I agree on the Ohio part...definitly one of the most segragated and racist states I have ever been to. Shit I was born there...Was it last year? I think so..I marched in the MLK day march in downtown Dayton..even got my picture on the front page of the newspaper..they even had a dialogue that I participated in after..really interesting..but there are some serious racial divides in that state..I am not sure where I was going with this.

If you think Ohio is bad, try living in the South.

You dont to draw attion to you self and you child. There are way to may stupid out there that will say and do stuipd thing just becuse. That is a set up. Raical issuse are still there. Dont play in to someone elsses stupied ides. That all.

As a black man I wouldn't feel comfortable parading my child around in a curious George costume. Maybe if he or she was old enough to understand the ways of the world and still chose to do it I'd be all for it but a child doesn't have the capacity to understand this cold and difficult part of our society.

Ah its Friday and I'm high at work! I don't care my boss is out and I'm here by myself until 2 so there.

You were born here last year? LOL j/k. But yeah, Ohio is riddled with bigots on both sides.

Yes, racial issues are still there, and as much as we may wish for it all to go away, we still have to be realistic.

LOL! Whatever gets you through the night. And right on about the child making an informed choice.
