I've only heard on football head mention it the entire season, but the offense thats thats pats are running is known as the run shoot offense (see: Run & Shoot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). This is an oldschool offense thats hasn't been seen by the league in about a decade. The last real team to run in were the detroit lions and they were scoring all over the place with it.... Until they ran into a young agressive assistant coach named.. you guessed it bill belicheck! He stopped the run shoot by dropping max coverage on the wideouts and hitting the recievers in the middle of the field hard. Laying the wood on the over the field catches cause those short but vital gains to dissapear making the long shots moot and returing the team to a conventional run pass offence. That he brought back that offence that he stopped so many years ago is crafty for belichek, and that the other teams didn't do their home work on it is sad for the blow out victims. I think that tony Dungy will study hard on this and use bob sanders and the linebacker corp to lay the wood on wes welker when he goes the short route. I know it seems that the pats can throw deep to randy moss every play but thats an illusion, they still need the short routes to replace the run in their wide open offence. I think the game will be decided by who wins the battle over the middle of the field and not the wideouts. Well that my 2 cents and a little football history for ya to boot.
