I've owned the ubie and the vaporstar (which is pretty much just like the vapor genie). Don't waste your money on any of them. I was excited about the ubie first, but have since changed my mind.

You can use a pipe in the same way as the Ubie or any of these... just hold the flame 1/2" to 1" away from the bowl while inhaling and move it closer until you see the herb turn brown but not catch fire. That's the same thing the ubie does... only you can only fit like a spec of weed in the ubie.

Either way (pipe or ubie-ish pipe) you have to do it indoors because you need a consistent heat stream coming off the flame. (you can't have any wind at all blowing it around).

Oh yeah... and the vaporstar gave me bad headaches because the "gloss" on the wooden bowl would melt (and I think release vapors).

Finally, I would stay away from the genie because it is too small. You need a pipe long enough to let the smoke/vapor cool down before it hits your throat. Everything tastes and feels better that way. The longer the pipe the better. I have a 6-7 inch pipe (no pun intended). Plus the genie might do the same thing the vaporstar did as far as fumes since they are so similarly made.
