stem issuesThis is my fist time trying to grow. So I did some reaserch, and picked up a few things and decided to start with some seeds that I had lyeing around, for practice before I spent any money. Out of the 6 seeds 5 germinated, but 2 died within the first week. The other 3 seemed to be doing realy well.

My concern now is that one of the plants is about 6 inches tall and the stem is still realy thin. I have steaked it up, but it got nocked when I was moving it to the window for some natural light, and not the stem actualy has a kink in it. This happend about three days ago and the plant is 2 weeks old.

Is it normal for the stem to be this thin at this height. And can it survive the kink. Someone told me that I should cut the stem off where the kink is and it would grow back stronger with more leaves. Is that true?

stem issuesFirstly, your stem is that long because it is stretching for light. The sunlight you get through your window isn't going to be enough for it. You should get yourself a couple cool white CFL's and start from there.

Cutting off the stem will kill it. No leaves will grow back. And with the kink, I'm not sure its going to survive at all, since its so young. Its worth a shot I guess but you really do need to get some lights and get them close to it. Within a couple inches, but not touching it.

stem issuesyeah, if the kink is below the last set of leaves and you cut it, it wont grow back, but if you left some leaves on it, it should/could grow back. both the lights and the burrying it deeper are good suggestions.

stem issuesThanks I am going to try re-buring it. I will move it closer to the lights to. I was only putting it in front of the window for a couple hours a day, but I will keep it under the lights. Thanks.

stem issuesOk so I just wanted to let everyone know that I moved the lights and reburied the two kinked plants. Its been a week.

One of the plants is doing realy well. Much better than expected. The other I don't think is going to make it. It's not dead, but the leaves have not grown at all since the incident and they are not as dark green as my other plants.

Well at least I learned something. Thanks again to everyone that helped.

stem issuesWhen burying a stretchy seedling, I always spray the stem with water, and sprinkle a tiny bit of rooting hormone on it before burying it almost up to the first set of leaves. (must leave room for regular watering) 99.99% sucess rate.

stem issuesalways have an oscillating fan on your plants 24/7 ... the plants love the fresh moving air, and the fan strengthens the stems :smokin:
