As from my reading here over he last years or so, I have noticed that some people, typically from the Uk/English regions, is they call Kif, is what we know as those small little crysalsall over our buds, jis they call it resin, so perhaps, is what your friends are referring to is kif from the buds.

If so yes, if cooked int the right fatty oils, will get you high.

If it is pipe resin, I'm sure if you cooked it, it would midly get you stoned, but not before you puke your brains out. I couldn't imagione what cooked (pipe) resin would taste like. Awful.
