I don't really think you can over do airflow, unless it's some hurricane force wind that is knocking plants over.
My plants responded to my fans with some fat stem growth. Just don't go crazy with it and you shouldn't have a reason to worry.

strong winds should be just fine and probably even beneficial. like orzy said strong enough winds will cause young stems to bend over a little bit but after time those plants realize they need to have strong stems in order to cope with the environment. to my knowledge and experience excess wind has not really had any negative effects. we know stress can cause possibly more trichome development, maybe wind is beneficial for that as well.

The more intense the wind the thicker the stalk will become. More watering is also required because you will be basically blow-drying your grow-space. (Higher wind theoretically decreases humidity in an enclosed space, providing it is ventilated properly.)
This is very benefitial if you have a lot of space to allow the plant to grow upwards as tall as your time-frame will allow. If you have a fairly short hieght limitation (3-4ft) then you really don't need to over do the air-flow.
Be careful though thicker stalks mean a longer, thicker, and more lush root system. So plan on transplanting before the upper portion of the plant appears to need transplanting.
