Yeah most of his films tend to be slow paced and solemn, some would say boring or pretentious. I find that they have alot of emotional and psychological depth to them. There is a certain sadness to them that I like on rainy days. Check out Persona, Through a Glass Darkly, Cries and Whispers or the Virgin Spring if you want to give his films a second chance, those are some of my favorites.
